Why? It had to be quicktime, and I was having SO much trouble and spending SO much time trying to find a nice balance between quality and filesize.<br /><br />Unfortunately, nothing compared to the final in the end. Even though I had to render it in standard resolution, which was quite a shame as I had optimized the textures and lighting for HD playback, which is based on the development of Crysis / Fable 3 (the look of which we were going for,) high res textures, looking awesome, with low poly models.<br /><br />It really is a shame, really. It's obviously too late to do this now, but the animation is also quite bad, I'm not pointing any fingers there, but long story short I should have corrected it, but I rushed the render to try and get it finished on time, and still managed to overrun slightly.<br /><br /><br />So, how's this experience been?<br /><br />Fairly good. I enjoyed working with everyone on the team even though at certain points the workmode just died completely, even in times of desperation work wasn't getting done, leaving me to get more work done. At least I know now, there's no way in hell, that I'm EVER<br /><br />EVER<br /><br />EVERRR<br /><br />EVERRRR<br /><br />EVARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRr<br /><br />going to leave a project like this till the last couple days again. It takes far too long to make sure everything is perfect, especially when you're working in a group.<br /><br />For future reference Mr.Litchmore, be more boss, be less friend, otherwise, nothing get's done and you get the blame.<br /><br />All in all, I hope we get a decent grade.<br /><br />Bring on the next project :D<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS-UI8-x1uI/AAAAAAAAAtA/pnGt-t-breg/s1600/firsthousesdone.jpeg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS-UI8-x1uI/AAAAAAAAAtA/pnGt-t-breg/s320/firsthousesdone.jpeg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561826946355156706" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS-UInC76bI/AAAAAAAAAs4/-V8M7f73X7g/s1600/twinhousedone.jpeg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS-UInC76bI/AAAAAAAAAs4/-V8M7f73X7g/s320/twinhousedone.jpeg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561826940467014066" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS-UIgSbIII/AAAAAAAAAsw/E4LVBKM2DKQ/s1600/oly%2Bhouse%2Bdone.jpeg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 180px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS-UIgSbIII/AAAAAAAAAsw/E4LVBKM2DKQ/s320/oly%2Bhouse%2Bdone.jpeg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561826938652926082" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS-UIXj0tGI/AAAAAAAAAso/ck8iokj2F3c/s1600/streetviewHD.jpeg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 180px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS-UIXj0tGI/AAAAAAAAAso/ck8iokj2F3c/s320/streetviewHD.jpeg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561826936309986402" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS-UsVfXZJI/AAAAAAAAAtI/VJdwilDCHxo/s1600/geromshouses.jpeg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 180px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS-UsVfXZJI/AAAAAAAAAtI/VJdwilDCHxo/s320/geromshouses.jpeg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561827554229707922" /></a><br /><br /><br />Some fairly HQ stills to show.Razareihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15655931434765471039noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2474018014681195574.post-45404004567232556662011-01-12T14:33:00.000-08:002011-01-13T15:58:02.806-08:00JOURNEY PT 4<iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/0DAtaFaN8Oc" frameborder="0"></iframe><br /><br />So, 3 days to go. What's left to do? Just animate really. Watch this for Dominique's block out of the animation. I did start this, but Dommeh took over. In terms of the actual animation though, I guess that's my fault. Well partly. All I did was do parts that actually needed animation, and deleted the keyframes which created that blocked out effect. It was obvious at this point that some things were far too fast, and the camera did go a bit weird at points. <div><br /></div><div>I did try to fix it, but what I managed to salvage did not impress me at this point in time, as it wasn't as I had envisioned. Time was spent trying to correct but no prevail as time was running out. I had to get everything ready and set up to render, otherwise it wouldn't be finished in time.</div><div><br /></div><div>State of mind: Stressed, because of both projects, and because of the fact that the animation isn't as cool as I'd hoped.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS-HzPMh5_I/AAAAAAAAAsg/OPKHbE3_vfA/s1600/water2.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS-HzPMh5_I/AAAAAAAAAsg/OPKHbE3_vfA/s320/water2.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561813379148015602" /></a>The water drops and puddle I was previously talking about, along with a nice bit of scenery. Lighting is pretty much perfect, sunset. This is what I've been aiming for and working towards.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS-HmcCZCPI/AAAAAAAAAsY/WzeoRd72erA/s1600/65.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS-HmcCZCPI/AAAAAAAAAsY/WzeoRd72erA/s320/65.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561813159256852722" /></a>I had a specific idea in mind for the layout. Since the rat pretty much sticks to the right hand side of the road / street once he emerges from the starter house, I thought it would be common sense for me to place the houses of which everyone had modelled, on the left. This is pretty much the most sensible way I could expect the camera to at least brush past. :p Now, it's just time to animate and render.<div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS-HhwmXKbI/AAAAAAAAAsQ/Bu07QsBQAxg/s1600/64.jpeg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 256px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS-HhwmXKbI/AAAAAAAAAsQ/Bu07QsBQAxg/s320/64.jpeg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561813078877088178" /></a>Last but not least, the only thing that's now left is the main house. Because we were running out of time, I started blocking out the animation. This was later taken over by dominique, who then passed the job on to gerome, so it's a shared effort between the two of them on my model. After it was done I textured the pipe. <div><br /></div><div>In terms of animating, the block out was to allow us to see how things would move, so hopefully we wouldn't have a shoddy animation. Stay tuned.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS-HhR6P4gI/AAAAAAAAAsI/D1OLot36Av0/s1600/63.jpeg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 256px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS-HhR6P4gI/AAAAAAAAAsI/D1OLot36Av0/s320/63.jpeg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561813070638998018" /></a>Another quick render shot of the end of the street. Geromes house is straight ahead, my house is on the ight, and Lily's house is on the left.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS-HhWBjK8I/AAAAAAAAAsA/SYYdTPs95Co/s1600/62.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 256px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS-HhWBjK8I/AAAAAAAAAsA/SYYdTPs95Co/s320/62.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561813071743364034" /></a>The sacred apple, the apple of LIFE! Yes, this is the apple which the rat spots from a distance, only to get taken away right in front of his eyes. It's because of this that the rat has to go and look elsewhere for food. :P<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS-HhEIMikI/AAAAAAAAAr4/9npkexYbhFo/s1600/61.jpeg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS-HhEIMikI/AAAAAAAAAr4/9npkexYbhFo/s320/61.jpeg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561813066939402818" /></a>Another screenshot demonstrating the water as below.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS-Hg-4slHI/AAAAAAAAArw/n4Vehw8-plU/s1600/60.jpeg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS-Hg-4slHI/AAAAAAAAArw/n4Vehw8-plU/s320/60.jpeg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561813065532216434" /></a>Now, I don't know if you can actually see this, but in case you can't later on there is a brighter image. As I mentioned before I did try partical emission techniques to try and get rain to fall, and puddles to develop. As I mentioned before also, I failed with this horribly. Thankfully though, I managed to solve quite a few puddles and placed them around the map.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS-HRM0gBtI/AAAAAAAAAro/WvA3o5wZ8AA/s1600/58.jpeg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS-HRM0gBtI/AAAAAAAAAro/WvA3o5wZ8AA/s320/58.jpeg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561812794394805970" /></a>Gerome suggested that I applied a brown tint to the lighting, to give London that overall muddy, dirty look. He said that he liked it, but envisioned London as it should be, being more grey. This lighting was obviously discarded.<div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS-HQ-lk9EI/AAAAAAAAArg/h9ucbF05orc/s1600/57.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS-HQ-lk9EI/AAAAAAAAArg/h9ucbF05orc/s320/57.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561812790574117954" /></a>Whilst at this point, Oly didn't have anything to do for a while. So I asked her if she could perhaps make some trees. Unfortunately, I'm not to sure what was wrong with them but the leaves we're showing up as leafy blocks. Because of this I could not use them as it would look really wrong. Instead, I deleted the leaves from the tree, re-applied the textures, and imported them back into the scene.<div><br /></div><div>Thankfully, which is something I didn't notice until later on, is that Oly had actually animated one of the trees a little bit. It's a shame that it didn't work properly though.</div><div><br /></div><div>Credit is given where it is due, so props to you Oly, and everyone else thus far. You're all lazy noobs, but you all work when time is near (kinda) xD</div><div><br /></div><div>And yes, I'm included in that :P<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS-HQspa5LI/AAAAAAAAArY/6vv3FCe74Gg/s1600/56.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 200px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS-HQspa5LI/AAAAAAAAArY/6vv3FCe74Gg/s320/56.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561812785758397618" /></a>Once everything was back in place, I began to import, apply the textures, move, scale, etc; of all the objects which needed to be put in. So<div><br /></div><div>Stalls - By lily</div><div>Barrels - By lily</div><div>Apple - By Sarah</div><div>Rat - By Gerome.</div><div><br /></div><div>These props we're randomly placed according to light and shadow, and camera shot which matched the animatic.<br /><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS-HQfthukI/AAAAAAAAArQ/simoFk7kRAY/s1600/55.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS-HQfthukI/AAAAAAAAArQ/simoFk7kRAY/s320/55.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561812782285961794" /></a>Sarahs house! Yes, he's a villain in our project. :P This was done pretty much using brushes in photoshop. Now if you're wondering, I didn't fully texture the house properly in the sense of using wood. What I did was copy a side of one of my original buildings, edit it a bit, and then put it on to the side of this building. Purely for the reason that I didn't feel it was necessary as you'd only see a little bit of the side.<div><br /></div><div>The position of this building is only going to be seen pretty much from the front of the house. Looks pretty decent with plain lighting. At this stage, I feel pretty confident about the look of the whole thing, since I've investigated plenty, experimented plenty, and have gained quite a bit of knowledge, and passed some on. Yaaay. I'm looking forward to the final piece of this though.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS90J3RLDkI/AAAAAAAAApY/xncy1IrBnho/s1600/42.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 180px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS90J3RLDkI/AAAAAAAAApY/xncy1IrBnho/s320/42.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561791777629474370" /></a>So. This is what the rendered versions of two of the small houses I modelled. Now, if you look closely at the house closest to the camera, you'll notice a little easter egg. Well, it's only if you can identify it. :P<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS90JTKSzGI/AAAAAAAAApQ/0-FZ-VvT1u8/s1600/40.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS90JTKSzGI/AAAAAAAAApQ/0-FZ-VvT1u8/s320/40.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561791767936945250" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS90I4eXGdI/AAAAAAAAApI/ykPDHwD8mxA/s1600/39.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS90I4eXGdI/AAAAAAAAApI/ykPDHwD8mxA/s320/39.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561791760773355986" /></a>Self explanatory - Same description as below.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS9zZwwFQQI/AAAAAAAAApA/gJu9os8foEM/s1600/37.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS9zZwwFQQI/AAAAAAAAApA/gJu9os8foEM/s320/37.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561790951246348546" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS9zZnl2-VI/AAAAAAAAAo4/WGJZZWrFRYk/s1600/36.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS9zZnl2-VI/AAAAAAAAAo4/WGJZZWrFRYk/s320/36.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561790948787550546" /></a>These are the UV's I used for this building.<div><br /></div><div>Now, I did four houses, based on the same geometry, and the same UV's. Obviously there's only a slight variation in terms of colour and texture. Like for example, some colours are darker, some have marks on them, near the base of the ground due to wear and tear.</div><div><br /></div><div>Just in case you're wondering, some parts of the wood purposely have little bits of paint put over the wood. This is to illustrate the sloppiness in the making of the houses in that era.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS9zYVfP2eI/AAAAAAAAAow/gnwx27d7g4Y/s1600/35.png"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 200px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS9zYVfP2eI/AAAAAAAAAow/gnwx27d7g4Y/s320/35.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561790926748113378" /></a>Yay! Textured houses! Yes, they're all different. Thankfully with UV mapping you can scale the house. But only if you scale the object as a whole. Scaling parts individually means that the UV goes out of whack, and you're left with a texture-less object.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS9zX1yAPUI/AAAAAAAAAoo/HQLcCTQ4gbQ/s1600/31.png"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS9zX1yAPUI/AAAAAAAAAoo/HQLcCTQ4gbQ/s320/31.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561790918236847426" /></a>So, back to this house. Texturing time. Using the EXACT same method. (UV snapshots, exporting into photo-shop, painting the textures blah blah blah)<div><br /></div><div>Oh wait.</div><div><br /></div><div>I didn't actually explain how I UV my objects. :P </div><div><br /></div><div>Well it all depends. Automatic mapping isn't really cool for this sort of thing, so instead I used create UVS based on camera in the Planar Mapping feature. This allowed me to texture the individual faces of a house. Later on it was revealed to me by Gerome who further experimented on what I taught everyone, and found out that you can individual create a face's UV. This would allow you to simply correct any errors.</div><div><br /></div><div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS9zX1lDE2I/AAAAAAAAAog/U4xFQnDqvxE/s1600/30.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 180px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS9zX1lDE2I/AAAAAAAAAog/U4xFQnDqvxE/s320/30.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561790918182507362" /></a>Okay, this is just an image of the houses that I have so far. So, at this point, Sarahs house is finished (second house from the left) so is Oly's house, (first on the left) and Geromes, and Lily's house. The only house missing now is Dominique's. In all fairness, she has been trying really hard, but her laptop is pretty much ultimate fail. Every 10 seconds, the screen goes white until you knock it back into place, and randomly stops functioning. This, combined with simple mistakes made her house fail time and time again. Hopefully she'll have success soon.</div></div>Razareihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15655931434765471039noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2474018014681195574.post-4956659667993557802011-01-12T12:17:00.000-08:002011-01-13T13:44:32.236-08:00Journey PT 2<span class="Apple-style-span"><b>PAUSEE</b></span><div><span class="Apple-style-span"><b><br /></b></span></div><div><b style="font-size: x-large; ">Break. </b><b><span class="Apple-style-span">How is it all going?</span></b></div><div><b><span class="Apple-style-span"><br /></span></b></div><div><b><span class="Apple-style-span">I'm so tired.. Although this image looks better in terms of reflectivity and matches the mood better (the feel of this area is a run-down, post trading day London, just after the rain has come. At this stage, not all of the houses are done to a finished modelled standard. But I felt it necessary at this point in time to put everything on a plane, and organize it roughly to how I'd want the road to be.<div><br /></div><div>Of course, the initial layout of this was based off of the victoria street shown below (google maps) with a slight curvature at the end of the path. Doing this allowed me to generally get a grasp<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS9iHp3Gu4I/AAAAAAAAAmY/nhJ4TlSd3gs/s1600/15.png"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 200px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS9iHp3Gu4I/AAAAAAAAAmY/nhJ4TlSd3gs/s320/15.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561771948461439874" /></a>Windows of my twin house. Done by Lily. I can't remember exactly why she did this, I think she was waiting for me to do something for her.. O_o Anyways, it does conform to what we had researched about arched windows. The details that we can put on will all be in the textures.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS9iHalMyoI/AAAAAAAAAmQ/E9oCdnK-PC4/s1600/14.png"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 200px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS9iHalMyoI/AAAAAAAAAmQ/E9oCdnK-PC4/s320/14.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561771944359807618" /></a>Geromes house. Looks quite decent. This house was based directly off of one of the reference images that sarah and lily took. Am I pleased with this? Heck yes! Going to be awesome when I texture it. Hopefully, I haven't textured yet, and know absolutely nothing about texturing as of yet.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS9iHY_CObI/AAAAAAAAAmI/Ar21VjpUZ6Q/s1600/13.png"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS9iHY_CObI/AAAAAAAAAmI/Ar21VjpUZ6Q/s320/13.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561771943931296178" /></a>It was at this point, that other peoples houses started being complete. Well the model anyway. Lily has finished her house, as well as geromes (far left). At this stage, only Dominique's, Sarah's, and Oly's house is let.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS9iGw0RzsI/AAAAAAAAAmA/Wg8inc-CypU/s1600/12.png"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 200px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS9iGw0RzsI/AAAAAAAAAmA/Wg8inc-CypU/s320/12.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561771933148761794" /></a>Like I've said before, began to work in the detail on the main house. This is pretty much going to be the end result in terms of what's already been applied. The same decoration will pretty much be applied on the front, back, and the other side. As I've said before, this is going to be the main house so this house needs to look the best, otherwise it'll defeat the purpose. Obviously that's all going to be down to texturing.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS9eQmraJaI/AAAAAAAAAl4/Sbmklf0-A0Y/s1600/10.png"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 200px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS9eQmraJaI/AAAAAAAAAl4/Sbmklf0-A0Y/s320/10.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561767704179385762" /></a>And then we move on to this. What is this specifically? Just more detail. Specifically the house focused on the centre of the camera. The frames and decoration of the house has been applied. Looks okay for the style we're going for.<div><br /></div><div>How do I feel about it? Quite pleased. Although very basic, this is pretty much the first time I've ever modelled anything from scratch.</div><div><br /></div><div>Infact, to be completely honest with you, this is pretty much my first time modelling, texturing, and lighting.</div><div><br /></div><div>Moving on up!<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS9eQoaYBCI/AAAAAAAAAlw/gFQadPaCais/s1600/9.png"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS9eQoaYBCI/AAAAAAAAAlw/gFQadPaCais/s320/9.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561767704644813858" /></a>Just another shot of the camera, showing the current stage of the houses in development so far.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS9eQalm6YI/AAAAAAAAAlo/_KhN1LJlEAU/s1600/8.png"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS9eQalm6YI/AAAAAAAAAlo/_KhN1LJlEAU/s320/8.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561767700933831042" /></a>Next up on the menu, a tall house. Random tall house? No. This is going to be the model for the main house. The house in which the rat decides to climb up to fetch his food. The reason why it's tall is purely for the fact that it can gather a nice look of the view as it climbs. Easily, you can tell that the model is based on the same basic shapes and designs as the other, with slight geometry modification.<div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS9eQKRaC2I/AAAAAAAAAlg/WG7qbBvmpSQ/s1600/7.png"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS9eQKRaC2I/AAAAAAAAAlg/WG7qbBvmpSQ/s320/7.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561767696554134370" /></a>Here is a little highlight of one of the buildings. As it's geometry obviously differs from the previous image. Added a couple frames, in terms of wood decoration to the model, and the chimney. The house now looks like a house, sort of.. :P<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS9eP1dGHbI/AAAAAAAAAlY/rM_I5cmtZCg/s1600/6.png"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 200px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS9eP1dGHbI/AAAAAAAAAlY/rM_I5cmtZCg/s320/6.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561767690966015410" /></a><br /><div>Before I moved on, in terms of working in a tiny bit of detail, I began to make the roofs. This was done simply by adding subdivisions to the faces of the roofs, and extruding faces out, then rotating them. Was this necessary? Well. One could debate that the roofs will very likely never be seen, but for the sake of this model and future potential I tried to make the roofs as accurate to buildings from the 1350's as accurate as possible. Clay tiles, slanted.</div><div><br />Right. NEXT STEP</div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div>Razareihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15655931434765471039noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2474018014681195574.post-63617524369011636942011-01-11T09:22:00.000-08:002011-01-13T13:42:09.304-08:00Journey PT 1<span class="Apple-style-span" ><b>PAUSEE</b></span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" ><b><br /></b></span></div><div><b style="font-size: x-large; ">Break. </b><b><span class="Apple-style-span" >How is it all going?</span></b></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" ><b><br /></b></span></div><div><b><span class="Apple-style-span" ></span></b><span class="Apple-style-span" ><b>Well. By frames, I mean extrusion to create the wood textures as seen on the reference buildings below. Incase you haven't gathered by now, all of these houses are going to be based on the wood and paint housing. White paint, dark stained wood as framing, with extrusions.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS82wegleII/AAAAAAAAAlI/qFbt9VhrYuo/s1600/4.png"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS82wegleII/AAAAAAAAAlI/qFbt9VhrYuo/s320/4.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561724271277209730" /></a>After the first house was pretty much finished, (in simple form of course) I began to move onto the other houses, in no particular fashion. Making each house a slight variation from the one proceeding it. Of course, for animation purposes, it's all about what the camera sees. At no point in this story will the audience think that they have seen the same image twice. Why? Because they're made to look different, and shown from different angles. Clever animation, something that almost ALL animators do.<div><br /></div><div>Film exposés will do this for you. :P<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS82wM1faFI/AAAAAAAAAlA/_gzdCCoEswY/s1600/3.png"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS82wM1faFI/AAAAAAAAAlA/_gzdCCoEswY/s320/3.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561724266533054546" /></a>As I said before, and as the image below suggests, I'm making currently quite a few houses. In order to do this, I duplicated my bases, made minor adjustments such as scale and so forth. As you can also see from the image at the end that it also has a roof and a chimney. Now, each of these houses are built like this for a reason. At this stage we haven't decided what house is going to be used for the main house, of which the rat is going to climb up. In preparation for this, I'm making sure that almost all of my buildings can be mounted onto a square base.<div><br /></div><div>OF course, all of this is going to have to be finalised before the texturing is applied. Otherwise, something bad could happen. :D<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS82wKFIr-I/AAAAAAAAAk4/8zJDNsgA7mA/s1600/2.png"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 200px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS82wKFIr-I/AAAAAAAAAk4/8zJDNsgA7mA/s320/2.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561724265793368034" /></a>This image is kind of in the wrong place, but this is another house model I had made, based on the research that we had done, and the images from which Sarah and Lily took. Square base, extruded upwards, extruded outwards to create the roof. Added wood pillars at the front of the house for support. This is purely down to the fact that houses we're built like this from the 1350's+.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS82vjvfF7I/AAAAAAAAAkw/y_XiOD3CTl8/s1600/1.png"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 200px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS82vjvfF7I/AAAAAAAAAkw/y_XiOD3CTl8/s320/1.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561724255502014386" /></a>Right. I started with a very basic, square plane. I based this model, as well as what the other members should be doing, on a scale of 10 by 9 metres. Which is adequate for a smallish house in that era. Generally, houses would be quite a bit bigger than this, but that's reserved for the other houses. :p<div><br /></div><div><br />Right. I've set everyone individual tasks. As of now, the first step is for everyone to start modelling a house. Meanwhile everyone gets on with that, I'll begin with modelling my house as well. I plan on doing a couple houses for this project, as there are 6 of us, each of us modelling one house just isn't going to cut it. 8 Days to go, 2 projects to complete. Gosh, we're going to need quite a few days for rendering as well, as although my machine is a complete beast, I'm expecting to squeeze beast textures and models into this animation.</div></div></div></div>Razareihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15655931434765471039noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2474018014681195574.post-48477883994830401452011-01-10T02:56:00.000-08:002011-01-13T14:31:55.452-08:00Storyboard<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRXRD4eszdYG9zIvWswbQWJZE09kTyBleoY9PQ7vW9Uo0yAykkx47XLQps_DL5e6qRABwuDFEz_UwMQJcHtSmJjxa05wlKkmWmX_xHyuyiyP9mHvsvKkKUptBRCnP_lGb-V_hZjiHequE/s1600/storyboard18.jpg"><img style="display:block; To recap!<br /><br />Project : Environments<br /><br />Criteria : Most met<br /><br />Story : Rat through plagued city of London.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS70RvKFSwI/AAAAAAAAAko/Zu_ApETjYC0/s1600/4.png"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS70RvKFSwI/AAAAAAAAAko/Zu_ApETjYC0/s320/4.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561651175402851074" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS70Rn9mFdI/AAAAAAAAAkg/XmxQxRiBHC4/s1600/3.png"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS70Rn9mFdI/AAAAAAAAAkg/XmxQxRiBHC4/s320/3.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561651173471426002" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS70RQ8icgI/AAAAAAAAAkY/Pz-vb4_XQJc/s1600/2.png"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS70RQ8icgI/AAAAAAAAAkY/Pz-vb4_XQJc/s320/2.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561651167292977666" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS70RKbP7jI/AAAAAAAAAkQ/mJ1ougm0m6s/s1600/1.png"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TS70RKbP7jI/AAAAAAAAAkQ/mJ1ougm0m6s/s320/1.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561651165542739506" /></a><br /><br />Google Earth of the street in Victoria that I'm basing the layout off. As you can see this street is almost preserved in it's original format / layout. A huge bonus for gathering a realistic expectation. Although, I'm not going to make it quite as close at that the whole way through.<br /><br /><br />Now. At the start of the project we (I) looked at multiple shots of what we thought would be appropriate. This obviously started from fable:<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNr6kTkIMFI/AAAAAAAAAGk/dK4SJ8guzXM/s1600/IMG_3653.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 720px; height: 576px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNr6kTkIMFI/AAAAAAAAAGk/dK4SJ8guzXM/s1600/IMG_3653.JPG" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><br />This then led me to start researching into games. Such as fable, Crysis, etc. It allowed me to gain an understanding of how games like that are textured since we wanted our feel to pretty much look like fable.<br /><br />Crysis: <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://thegamershub.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/crysis-suitmenu.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 1440px; height: 900px;" src="http://thegamershub.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/crysis-suitmenu.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><br /><div><br /><br />As you can see from this, games like this which are in really high detail use REALLLLY low poly models, but use layered high res textures. This is what approach I'm going to use and teach to the others.<br /><br />Since that's all cleared up, we should actually START. We have very little time left.<br /><br />How do I feel at this point? Still don't have my laptop, people are having problems with their laptops too. I just had to take apart Sarah's laptop, but that is now fixed so it's okayish. Lily's is okay now too. I re-did Dom's laptop too. In terms of workload, people are going to come to my house APPARENTLY for the entire christmas holidays to catch up on work. Because of this I'm not TOOO fussed about forcing them to do work right now, but yeah, would be nice.<br /><br /></div>Razareihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15655931434765471039noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2474018014681195574.post-4601062416982651382010-12-02T03:07:00.000-08:002011-01-13T04:09:05.424-08:00Backing track! Now. At the start of the project I thought it would be quite nice to compose a track to help with the overall feel of the environment. Immediately, I thought of fable. Well to be honest, I think everyone did at somepoint. It is pretty much what we're basing this entire thing off. Not the game exactly, but the feel and the era.<br /><br />Anyways, once the storyboard was complete, after work I invited Gerome over. We then began to compose the track based on soundtracks from fable. When I say based on, I mean the same genre of music. <br /><br /><object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/OnZwiE5dG6k?fs=1&hl=en_GB"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/OnZwiE5dG6k?fs=1&hl=en_GB" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object><br /><br />Generally, I composed the notation and flow, and with geromes input on certain notation and speed, ended up becoming quite a success in my opinion. Anyway, here is the track.. (As soon as it finishes uploading on YuuTuub.)<br /><br />This track was composed using my Piano and Reason 3.0. It was important to have an orchestra for the instrumentation without a brass section as its a calm waltz melody. I also wanted to illustrate the action of the rat to the music via the storyboard. Hopefully animating it to it won't take too long as we're now REALLY close to the deadline.<br /><br /><object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/0-niTi4_h6o?fs=1&hl=en_GB"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/0-niTi4_h6o?fs=1&hl=en_GB" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>Razareihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15655931434765471039noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2474018014681195574.post-40433894392670344512010-11-28T01:24:00.001-08:002011-01-13T02:55:20.744-08:00Plan update. In terms of my personal health, I am recovering, I seem to be stuck at about 90% recovery for the past week or so. :( But everything is still going okay.<br /><br /><div><br /></div><div>Depending on how much time we have left will determine how much of this we get done, and to what degree of quality it will be done at. Hopefully it's good enough as I really do want to get a good grade, especially how I've put so much effort into this whole thing.<br /><br /><br />Mouse starts in its home, through hole into Dining room inside a house, from a point of view of the rat, goes through a crack, street view. <- Vague, come up with through the group. Upon coming up with my interpretation of the idea, input was also given from Gerome at certain points. I stayed behind with Dominique to start the storyboard, we ran out of time. I explained to her what the below meant, as she was to do a rough storyboard by the time that I got home today. However incomplete it was, the interpretation given was good, it's still being done. Hopefully it's done by the time I get home from work so I can start/help with the animatic. At least everything is finalised now, all we've got to do is actually do it. When I finish work, me and Gerome are going to compose the backing track. My elaboration of this idea is as follows (Discussion with Dominique): <span style="font-weight:bold;">The story begins as the camera pans on to the seemingly empty mouse hole, only to be described as so from the ambient light. Upon the camera zooming in on this mouse hole we discover that it is infact that the mouse’s home, and that we are looking from the mouse’s perspective.<br /><br />(Bearing in mind that this POV will reflect and mimic the movement of a mouse. Mice move quickly, then break, then quickly move again.)<br /><br />The mouse comes out of this hole, as the audience is exposed to a familiar room, the dining room. At the edge of the camera, a decomposing arm is seen at the far edge of the camera screen. History suggests that mice would normally take the route amongst the wall to avoid detection, and would leave trail of stains that are pretty much impossible to wash out, hence the invention of skirting boards.<br /><br />So, the mouse takes its route amongst the wall (where the skirting boards would be of course) and naturally this is the simplest course. Until it encounters a standalone chest of draws. This chest of draws however is tightly wedged to the ground, with a tiny gap to the wall for the mouse to pass through, or tightly wedged to the wall, where the mouse will pass underneath the chest of draws.<br /><br />The mouse then continues along the sides of the wall to encounter more objects. Tools on the ground left by the occupant of the home. The mouse simply just navigates through and over them speedily, to make its way to its first goal: The crack in the wall by the door.<br /><br />This crack in the wall is literally right next to the hinges of the door, and is the rat’s first goal. The rat then makes its way to this crack, and proceeds through the mellow light of the sun. (late sunset) to find it’s way on a London street, after hours.<br /><br />The second it’s gone through the hole the rat proceeds down a slightly dark, London street, where most of the people have already left the streets into their homes, however there is still sound of people in the background, footsteps, chatter, shouters, town criers. The lot. The mouse proceeds down this street, weaving through puddles (ripples or whatever shown via the blowing wind), bits of paper and leaves blowing in the brief and sudden winds, dodging ditches of sewage, underneath carts, and between peoples legs / footsteps, till it reaches what it was looking for, food, only for another rat to come in the view of the camera, and take it. REVISION: The mouse follows the scent of what it smells down the street.<br /><br />The mouse then pauses, and looks around, then looks up, and realises the scent is coming from above, from a particular building. The rat then proceeds to navigate across the street, only to be interrupted by a person pushing a cart. Rat either gets hit, or pauses, and jumps through the wheel of this cart to get to the other side.<br /><br />The building in question on the other side is a tall building. This is the start of the second objective.<br /><br />The rat begins to scale this building by climbing up a drainage pipe. This drainage pipe happens to be made out of fail and falls apart, leaving the rat suspended 2nd floor off the ground on a very slim ledge. The rat then proceeds to navigate through on this ledge to find another route, going underneath the statuette heads (decorations we saw at the museum and on buildings) At the edge of the ledge, the rat, climbs up onto one of the decorations, which allows it to navigate to the next floor. Still on a ledge, the rat makes its way along a straight ledge, pausing rapidly and looking around, and down. The rat continues to make its way down the ledge, when a window suddenly opens (the window is stiff, person pushes really hard, illustrated via sounds), cutting off the rat, and its path, the rat does not react quick enough and makes it lose its equilibrium (balance).<br /><br />Once the mouse regains its balance, the window is still there (detail of the window shown, cracks in the window, a bucket is shown through the window throwing out waste. Window then closes again. The rat continues to navigate to the end of the ledge then spots another drainage pipe, and climbs inside this pipe.<br /><br />Inside this pipe, you see remnants of bits of whatever, and liquids. This pipe ends up having a crack in it, in which the rat goes through. Pauses, sniffs, then jumps out through the crack. This crack leads to a 3rd floor ledge, where a window is slightly ajar, just enough for the scent of the food to travel out.<br /><br />This is where you hear an owls noise, and the rat being jerked, then, END.</span></div>Razareihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15655931434765471039noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2474018014681195574.post-3373508581367558512010-11-22T13:00:00.000-08:002010-11-23T05:00:23.427-08:00<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/QCik5XvtZfs?fs=1&hl=en_GB"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/QCik5XvtZfs?fs=1&hl=en_GB" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object><br /><br />Mouse hunt. Why? Rochester still has VERY similar building geometry and floors, and walls from around the 1400 hundreds. Which means, generally buildings there are going to be quite similar to the sort of style we should convey.<br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNwBqcwFy3I/AAAAAAAAAd8/zcC1x-9ZQeg/s1600/IMG_3230.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNwBqcwFy3I/AAAAAAAAAd8/zcC1x-9ZQeg/s320/IMG_3230.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5538303470542900082" /></a><div style="text-align: center;">Wall supports / deco.</div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNwBqLGUCWI/AAAAAAAAAd0/KXpM95WFZ9g/s1600/IMG_3228.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNwBqLGUCWI/AAAAAAAAAd0/KXpM95WFZ9g/s320/IMG_3228.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5538303465804269922" /></a>Decoration. Now. Obviously the pavement has been reworked, many times over. But in terms of the detail of the brick, it was quite similar to how it would of been. Uneven shaped bricks, placed together with moderate effort to create a seemingly level ground, although, totally uneven. This is the basis of which I'm going to use to create the floor.<div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNwAapwdp_I/AAAAAAAAAbU/7u4OHOcDF-A/s1600/IMG_3118.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNwAapwdp_I/AAAAAAAAAbU/7u4OHOcDF-A/s320/IMG_3118.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5538302099644590066" /></a>Another example of an extruding house from the front.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNwAZ49lhWI/AAAAAAAAAbM/lr4BLVs12CI/s1600/IMG_3115.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNwAZ49lhWI/AAAAAAAAAbM/lr4BLVs12CI/s320/IMG_3115.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5538302086546294114" /></a><div style="text-align: center;">Here upwards photographs taken by both Lily and Sarah. So, coming out of the map, being unbalanced. </div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNv_hVpHg7I/AAAAAAAAAa8/wmEDMfAnn5M/s1600/DSCN1180.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNv_hVpHg7I/AAAAAAAAAa8/wmEDMfAnn5M/s320/DSCN1180.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5538301114992526258" /></a>Another interesting image showing the layout of a house. Notice the extrusions on the base model as the stories pile up? This is common, and pretty much shown on almost every single house in that era that has more than one story. Usually extruding from the front, but some houses actually extrude from all sides and are lined up against another house, or wall, or between two houses.<div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNv_g7iwnOI/AAAAAAAAAa0/G3c36dLJ_T0/s1600/DSCN1174.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNv_g7iwnOI/AAAAAAAAAa0/G3c36dLJ_T0/s320/DSCN1174.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5538301107986537698" /></a>Interior of a house of a similar era. Just showing the layout of what the average house would be like. This was more later, though, and for rich people. Unfortunately, during the era we're doing and in London, pretty much only poor people lived there at that time. Very unhygienic poor people at that. A breeding ground for disease and ailments.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNv_gYHlLmI/AAAAAAAAAas/5CK422XSE5o/s1600/DSCN1172.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNv_gYHlLmI/AAAAAAAAAas/5CK422XSE5o/s320/DSCN1172.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5538301098477301346" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNv_gGiw5tI/AAAAAAAAAak/cS8A9mcFxIo/s1600/DSCN1172%2B.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNv_gGiw5tI/AAAAAAAAAak/cS8A9mcFxIo/s320/DSCN1172%2B.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5538301093759477458" /></a>The little villager there standing next to the house actually made me lol quite a bit.<div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNv_U2InpmI/AAAAAAAAAac/mI3xq55WsMg/s1600/DSCN1171.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNv_U2InpmI/AAAAAAAAAac/mI3xq55WsMg/s320/DSCN1171.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5538300900376290914" /></a>This is probably the most important image amongst all the images here. It SPECIFICALLY shows what houses in the 1350s-1750's looked like. All houses made during this period and after for a couple hundred years were based on this design.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNv_ULaTEdI/AAAAAAAAAaU/0iH-8rU65bA/s1600/DSCN1168.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNv_ULaTEdI/AAAAAAAAAaU/0iH-8rU65bA/s320/DSCN1168.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5538300888907715026" /></a><div style="text-align: center;">Archway - Door. Patterns from that particular era. I don't know if we're actually going to have any archways in our project, but if we do, we know what to base it off. Wood. The pattern on the wood has been recurring quite often amongst other designs that I've reviewed earlier. Decorative plaques and so forth.</div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNv_TiOf0-I/AAAAAAAAAaM/xmsaXf9Yrv8/s1600/DSCN1167.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNv_TiOf0-I/AAAAAAAAAaM/xmsaXf9Yrv8/s320/DSCN1167.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5538300877852365794" /></a>Another chest. Just shows the sort of clothing average citizens would wear on the streets during that time. This set is specifically described as a medium-low class workers outfit. In terms of relevance, if we decide to go ahead with the whole character showing in our project, then it means that we can use inspiration from this to design our characters.<div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNv_TGskipI/AAAAAAAAAZ8/EmSTMy5vb5s/s1600/DSCN1163.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNv_TGskipI/AAAAAAAAAZ8/EmSTMy5vb5s/s320/DSCN1163.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5538300870462311058" /></a><div style="text-align: center;">Bucket. Still got a bit of time to go. Unfortunately, as of yet, the laptop which I ordered about a month ago is still yet to come. Even after multiple ETA's from them, I still haven't recieved. Why am I calm? Because I still have just over 4 weeks to go until christmas, so I'm not THAT worried at the moment. Although, it would be nice to start some work soon.<br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNvq5JgtAkI/AAAAAAAAAZ0/fWp6v4HfMKs/s1600/IMG_3763.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNvq5JgtAkI/AAAAAAAAAZ0/fWp6v4HfMKs/s320/IMG_3763.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5538278434308686402" /></a>Butterfly!! Now, the reason this image was taken, as well as the video, is that the environment created for these beauties was actually done really really well. It actually felt like you were in a place like that, say for example a jungle. It's this aspect that I wanted to convey in our animation. A simulation of another environment.<div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNvq40CeBJI/AAAAAAAAAZs/Ji5ZkwWukxE/s1600/IMG_3760.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNvq40CeBJI/AAAAAAAAAZs/Ji5ZkwWukxE/s320/IMG_3760.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5538278428544730258" /></a>Rats getting eaten by these huge birds. D: - Primary research for rats in the street of our environment. Why? Because these are the animals which carry the black plague. This is also going to be the movement of the camera in our animation. The reason why I want to get the attributes of the rat down is so that I can hopefully try and mimic the movement, and characteristics of the rat, hopefully make it seem realistic enough. That also obviously depends on how we carry it out. At this stage Dom and Lily are going to do the animation, however that is subject to change depending on how much time we have left.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNsiVN26MFI/AAAAAAAAAO8/wTc-40L8Uf0/s1600/IMG_3746.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNsiVN26MFI/AAAAAAAAAO8/wTc-40L8Uf0/s320/IMG_3746.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5538057914674720850" /></a><div style="text-align: center;">King of the arena. Looking at fake habitats in order to create a homely atmosphere for the inhabitants.<div><br /></div><div>It's actually pretty weird. This was a very very cold, and rainy day, but funnily enough, none of the animals seemed to care much, as it pretty much seemed normal to them, apart from the tiger crying cause it was cold :(</div><div><br /></div><div>The makeshift habitats were actually done quite well, some places were a LOT hotter than others, and some were a little cooler. Now, you may think that all of this is irrelevant, but in my opinion it isn't. All of these habitats are makeshift. Totally fake, yet they are made in a way to simulate their original habitats, to make the animals / insects feel at home. It was this aspect to the visit which made the visit important, to see how I could use what I saw to make the environment seem... feasible. Recreating an old place is going to be hard. Thankfully, we live in London and know how gloomy and grey it is, this should hopefully be quite simple to simulate.</div><div><br /></div><div>Watch some of the brief video documentaries below for some short laughs / informative response.<br /><div><br /></div><div><br /></div></div><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dw7O4IT1uMWSv5VEcCw2h6D_ffcmsd1SYFYWtnx7QlKXrO2Stnwp3Jae6hjraIX2v7SqplOa7AZwLXrtlJDHg' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe> This guy was cold though, and I felt sorry for him. (zoo)Everything in terms of imagery on this section is relevant from the 1200-1500 section. Pretty much anything up until the great fire of London would likely be preserved as further research suggests.<br /><br /><br />Reason for this is anything within this period in Britain / London would be relevant material, and material we could consider for usage within our animation.<div><br /></div><div>How do I feel at this point in time? Quite good? It's not everyday that you get to visit places like this. Although this was pretty much mandatory for research purposes, and there wasn't that much material available, I did quite enjoy the whole process, and the facts. I've personally done quite a bit of research so far. The black death, the status of living conditions in that time, how the plague happened, etc. Heh. It's more of a window, but you probably guessed that already anyway. Again, same as below, it was actually important to get information on what windows looked like back then. As I'm pretty sure that it's not going to be as modern as our windows are today. Quite to our surprise, our windows today aren't that much different. Just made better, and obviously using better materials.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNsRB-nQFKI/AAAAAAAAAM0/qSO9S8CSQFo/s1600/IMG_3720.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5538038892467328162" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNsRB-nQFKI/AAAAAAAAAM0/qSO9S8CSQFo/s320/IMG_3720.JPG" /></a> <div style="TEXT-ALIGN: center">Door - One that could be easily replicated in terms of design / style. In my opinion it was important and both lucky of us to stumble upon this. Why? Doors have been around for a very long time, this gave us pretty much an exact idea of what doors around that period should look like. So for our project, doors similar to this in design (wood (looks like oak-ish) iron framing, should be something to heavily consider when texturing / modelling our doors.</div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNsRBrHYcNI/AAAAAAAAAMs/FcRxVXF8jCs/s1600/IMG_3719.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5538038887233384658" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNsRBrHYcNI/AAAAAAAAAMs/FcRxVXF8jCs/s320/IMG_3719.JPG" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNsRBNi9XxI/AAAAAAAAAMk/dMjbYcTc1TE/s1600/IMG_3718.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5538038879295987474" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNsRBNi9XxI/AAAAAAAAAMk/dMjbYcTc1TE/s320/IMG_3718.JPG" /></a> <div style="TEXT-ALIGN: center">Priests robe / cloak. Right. Since at this point we're still considering whether to have characters or not in our project, it was important to know what sort of clothing would be seen. As indicated by the description above, these objects tell the story of Christ's life from birth to death, while burning incense to acknowledge this. This was seen as a sign of appreciation in churches in England of the time. Not so much relevant as we will possible not see much of the inside of a building, but the design of the object could lead us to developing objects of the same style to use as decoration maybe? Nothing says gothic like this to be honest, which is ironic as it's about HESUUUS. At this stage, I am the one organizing everything, collaborating information, doing the research and the planning. Not to say everyone else is slacking because they aren't, but I need to be more managerial and less fatherly, I'm far too lenient, and as a result of this, at this stage, I am the one doing quite a huge chunk of the work.</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div>Era – Prior to the Black Death / renaissance. London<br /><br />Point of View (POV) of the character. As sprung from the initial idea of a character running through a collapsing building (initial concept.) Basic idea below:<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNr4qgfQNTI/AAAAAAAAAGc/79_09Sqiinw/s1600/IMG_3656.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNr4qgfQNTI/AAAAAAAAAGc/79_09Sqiinw/s320/IMG_3656.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5538012100964660530" /></a>This is just a basic VERY quick ( as you can tell) drawing of the idea just to visually illustrate what my interpretation of Gerome's basic description was.<br /><br />It seems, after much discussion, that we are going to have a rat (cause of the black death) roam this particular street in London. Rats point of view. This rat is going to roaming, dodging obstacles such as people throwing their waste of out windows, shrieks from nearby people, or even feet trying to stamp on it, as well as waste on that actual floor itself. That’s the basic concept. More finalisation + development comes later on.<br /><br />Couple images of the sort of theme / look we're basing on from a STARTING point:<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNr6lULOvlI/AAAAAAAAAG0/tIwlo6aZpKI/s1600/IMG_3655.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNr6lULOvlI/AAAAAAAAAG0/tIwlo6aZpKI/s320/IMG_3655.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5538014210783362642" /></a>Just another shot of a building, showing the angular shapes, textures, and general equilibrium of the house itself (balance.)<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNr6kmn_w7I/AAAAAAAAAGs/0z2JfaVBLZo/s1600/IMG_3654.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNr6kmn_w7I/AAAAAAAAAGs/0z2JfaVBLZo/s320/IMG_3654.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5538014198555984818" /></a>More houses. Scan taken from a book on the "Medieval ages", reflects generally the look of the buildings during that era. Built of cheapish, degrading material, worn down. Very angular and irregular centres of gravity. It seems there is a lot of protruding going on, in terms of ledges and floors.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNr6kTkIMFI/AAAAAAAAAGk/dK4SJ8guzXM/s1600/IMG_3653.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNr6kTkIMFI/AAAAAAAAAGk/dK4SJ8guzXM/s320/IMG_3653.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5538014193439486034" /></a><b>The above image is a direct reference to the sort of lighting we're after. People are poor, hygiene is ridiculously bad, clothes are pretty much rags and drapery, unwashed. Rich people did not really reside in London at this period in time. These aspects are quite easy to gather from general research into the period of the black death (1350.)<br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">Are we doing this prior to? Or during? Or as it started?</span><br /><br /><br />The Black Death can appear in 3 forms, each one more deadly than the previous form.<br /><br />The bubonic plague...<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNr3zuZctQI/AAAAAAAAAGM/ufG957ZG5ss/s1600/buboo.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 231px; height: 160px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNr3zuZctQI/AAAAAAAAAGM/ufG957ZG5ss/s320/buboo.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5538011159805605122" /></a><br /><br />...was the most common form of Black Death. The symptoms were enlarged and inflamed lymph nodes, pretty much in the most awkward places: the crotch, armpit, and the neck. The term 'bubonic' refers to the ‘characteristic bubo or enlarged lymphatic gland’. People infected with the disease suffered from headaches, nausea, aching joints, fever of 101-105 degrees (Fahrenheit) vomiting and a general feeling of illness. Symptoms generally took around 4 days average to show themselves.<br /><br />The pneumonic plague...<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNr4DmU7V_I/AAAAAAAAAGU/O8Da5SY0n58/s1600/pnuemonic.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 212px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_otdaqKZZqvs/TNr4DmU7V_I/AAAAAAAAAGU/O8Da5SY0n58/s320/pnuemonic.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5538011432517064690" /></a><br /><br /><br />...was the second most commonly seen form of the Black Death. ‘The pneumonic and the septicaemia plague were probably seen less then the bubonic plague because the victims often died before they could reach other places’<br /><br />The death rate for the pneumonic plague was 90-95% (if treated today the mortality rate would be 5-10%). This plague infected the lungs. Symptoms included saliva mixed with blood and mucus. When the disease progresses, the ‘sputum’ (all the crap I just previously explained) became water-like and bright red.<br /><br />The septicemic plague was the most rare form of all. The mortality was close to 100% (even today there is no treatment.) To put it simply, this disease ‘keels mofos’.<div><br /></div><div>It has yet to be finalised to whether we're actually going to have symptoms of the black plague shown, whether its on characters, or just enabling us the gather the atmosphere and feel of the environment of that specific era.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">Source: http://www.insecta-inspecta.com/fleas/bdeath/Black.html; http://www.zkea.com/archives/archive02005.html</span><br /><br /><span style="font-style:italic;">‘The plague reached London in autumn 1348. According to the contemporary Robert of Avesbury. London, as the country's largest city, had all the concomitant problems of overcrowding and poor sanitation. The Thames was a polluted mess and cesspits within the city were a constant source of contamination.<br /><br />Attempts to alleviate the sanitation problem were not helped by the Black Death itself. In 1349, the King remonstrated with the town council about the state of the streets. The council replied that it could do nothing on account of the fact that all of its street cleaners had died of the plague.</span>' <- lolz </div><div><br /></div><div>“A special warning has to be made about early epidemics of the "plague", for example in Greek or Roman history or in the Bible - these are usually not well enough documented to make any definite statement about the nature of the disease; the usage of the name stems from the early modern time, when the plague was the only disease known to cause massively killing epidemics." Many scientists believe that there was an outbreak of bubonic plague in the 6th century, starting in Africa and moving to Constantinople and the rest of the Byzantine Empire. Most scientists believe that the Black Death in the 14th century was an outbreak of bubonic plague. However, other theories have now been advanced, suggesting that the Black Death may have been an outbreak of some other disease, possibly a hemorrhagic fever similar to Ebola, or anthrax. The Great Plague of 1665 in London is also generally believed to have been an outbreak of bubonic plague. After a localised outbreak in Provence in southern France in 1720-1721, Europe suffered no more such attacks of plague, though the disease remained virulent in other regions, killing upwards of ten million in India in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries according to some estimates. The last rat-borne epidemic in the United States occurred in Los Angeles, California in 1924-1925.” </div><div><br /></div><div>So that’s that sorted. Questions to be answered next group meeting. – Monday 15th November.</div><div><br /></div><div> Colour - Self explanatory. Why are the colours we're using there in the first place? After discussion the overall feel of this is going to be moody. So darkish, cold to a degree, messy etc.</div><div><br /></div><div>This can obviously be conveyed by using dark colour colours or less saturated colours to show age / deterioration.</div><div><br /></div><div>What relevance do they have to the scene? What effects do they have on the environment, as well as the mood and atmosphere of the environment?</div><div><br /></div><div> How will colour help us to convey specific mood changes / atmospheric effects as well as how it could be used to indirectly link symbolism. How awesome is the final project going to be? We will be sort of replicating a real place so it should have a feel of the place we're going to replicate. </div><div><br /></div><div> How will that actually affect our final outcome? How well is this going to be pulled off? What is the final finished detail of the project going to be? </div><div><br /></div><div>What is appropriate animation? Simply put, necessary animation. Why animate anything that the camera is not going to see? Why make a bird do a back flip followed by a running jump if the original intention was for it to just fly away? Random? Yes, but there are contexts for these things. </div><div><br /></div><div>It's all appropriate if it fits with what is required. What is the purpose of light? Both literally and how it affects an environment / mood of a character / environment. </div><div><br /></div><div>How can we use light to correctly convey various viewpoints of the audience? How can we use light to portray a sense of isolation / suspense / power / beauty / lolage? </div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div> John Snow Facts Dr John Snow (1813-1858, yes, out of our period of time but read on) was a famous physician of his time. He was also recognised as a leader in the development of anaesthesia! Well in Britain obviously. It is also said as well that he is one of the founders of epidemiology. “Epidemiology is the study of patterns of health and illness and associated factors at the population level” – Source: www.google.com/define: </div><div><br /></div><div> Due to his studies in toxicology, John Snow developed an interest in anaesthesia and cholera, which led to a theory on the spread of the cholera poison in water. It seems he was correct, and because of this, a pub was named after him. This all happened around 1838 – quite a few hundred years after the black death incident, however, the city streets were still relatively bad, imagine how bad they must’ve been prior to the plague? </div><div><br /></div><div>We can use this as an incentive to correctly design our street based on factual evidence. http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=64sDijuQIvUC&printsec=frontcover&dq=clothing+in+london+1350&source=bl&ots=Eo2JLusTtX&sig=qz4ii8R1cdXwXdZtwCGDpL3jYu4&hl=en&ei=5uzaTOagJ4yEhQfPkqHQAg&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=2&sqi=2&ved=0CCIQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=clothing%20in%20london%201350&f=false <- a handy little website which pretty much shows 80% of a book they’re selling. Anyway, from there it was pretty easy to get a glimpse / insight to clothing of that era, and to put it simply, one word: Fable.<div><br /></div><div>From this, gained quite a bit of inspiration surprisingly about the overall feel of the place we were designing, more so than the actual clothing themselves. People also carried their own cutlery so we could actually show cutlery on trouser legs and so forth. Gathered from research. You all have fable, you all know what sort of sounds would be good, so fill me in :D<br /><br /><object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/WWd9s5uPv5c?fs=1&hl=en_GB"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/WWd9s5uPv5c?fs=1&hl=en_GB" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object><br /><br /><- the strings in this particular one are quick, staccato - in common old cartoons are used to illustrate movement of a small animal, or light steps from big animals / characters, OR to illustrate a chase scene. Basically anything fast paced too. :P </div><div><br /></div><div>What does this mean?</div><div><br /></div><div>This will mimic the footsteps OR the footsteps of the character we are using will go in tune with the music. This allows integration of sound with action. I already have an idea for how this is going to sound. Good work guys!</div></div></div></div></div></div>Razareihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15655931434765471039noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2474018014681195574.post-85683452796954825152010-11-03T04:42:00.000-07:002010-11-29T05:55:03.225-08:00Team... blue. :DMoodle page = <br /> <br /><strong>TEAM ALPHA SUPER AWESOME MEGA COOL DYNAMITE WOLF</strong> or other combinations<br /><br />Project Brief<br /> <br />For this project you will be working in teams of four of five students. You will all be working towards a final collaborative short film but will have the opportunity to fulfil clear and separate roles within the team.<br /> <br />- You will be working to <strong>create an animated environment</strong> <br />- You will be collaborating with the other animators in your team, <strong>but research, and your drawn responses to that research.</strong> <br />- Your research will <strong>form the starting point for your work</strong>.<br /> <br />This environment will be <strong>modelled in 3D, UV mapped, textured, and lit </strong>based upon the <strong>research</strong> of <strong>materials, architectural and aesthetic motifs</strong>, in order to create a <strong>visually consistent</strong> and <strong>coherent digital environment that will contain animated elements as well as providing an arena to support animation and interaction by characters.</strong> <br /> <br />Your environments by virtue of their virtuality are unreal, they will be <strong>designed</strong> from a <strong>starting point of real world research and drawing</strong>. You will be expected to provide <strong>visual and contextual evidence </strong>to support the development of your designs. This research will consist of practical site visits such as the drawing trips to London based venues and associated drawing and photography, as well as academic research via the web and the LRC.<br /> <br />This environment <em><strong>must demonstrate integral animation</strong></em>, it could be <strong>mechanical such as machinery, doors, windows, windmills etc, or it could be more organic, and atmospheric, such as the effects of wind on plants, weather conditions, etc.</strong> It could be a much more long term animation to <strong>show the effect of years passing, rather than minutes</strong>. For those of you who can focus upon contextualising the designed environment by populating it with characters using that environment, it may be that the environment is being used in an unintended or unexpected way that has evolved through public interaction with the space. <br /> <br /><strong>Animations<br />- Changes over time<br />- Changes in weather or lighting<br />- Changes in use of the environment<br /> <br />Visual Aesthetic<br />- A historical period<br />- An artistic movement<br />- A geographic or cultural idiom</strong> <br /><br />Blogged design journal is needed.<br /> <br /> <br /><strong>Things to focus on<br /> <br />-Understand how lighting and colour affect the appearance and mood of an environment.<br />-Reflection upon, and analysis of, individual performance in a group context.<br />- Analysis and replication of a real environment of implementation of a designed environment using 3D visualisation software.<br />-Build a computer generated environment, using modelling texturing, lighting and character interaction to a consistent visual aesthetic.<br />-Contribute successfully to a collaborative visual aesthetic.</strong> <br />Assessment criteria <br /><br />- Evidence of the identification and analysis of the aspects of colour, shape and light that contribute to the successful simulation of a particular environment.<br /><br /><em><strong>Colour - Self explanatory. Why are the colours we're using there in the first place? What relevance do they have to the scene. What effects do they have on the environment, as well as the mood and atmosphere of the environment. How will colour help us to convey specific mood changes / atmospheric effects as well as how it could be used to indirectly link symbolism.</strong></em><br /><br />- Evidence of reflection on the student’s personal contribution to the project.<br /><br /><strong>GUYS. SPECIFICALLY AS THIS SAYS. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ INDIVIDUAL CONTRIBUTION. MAKE SURE EVERYONE IS AWARE OF WHAT THEY CONTRIBUTE TOWARDS THE GROUP AS IT WILL CONTRIBUTE TOWARDS YOUR FINAL GRADE. BEING SAID, DO NOT TRY TO STEAL OR CLAIM SHARED IDEAS AS ONES OWN. THIS IS AN ASSESSMENT CRITERIA! </strong><br /><br />- The degree to which the CGI environment represents a successful replication of a real environment or implantation of a designed environment.<br /><br /><strong>How awesome is the final project going to be? We will be sort of replicating a real place so it should have a feel of the place we're going to replicate. How will that actually affect our final outcome? How well is this going to be pulled off? What is the final finished detail of the project going to be?</strong><br /><br />- The consistency of the styling of the environment.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">How correct is the environment that we're making? Remember, no mindfucks. Make sure that all this stuff has / currently exists, or is at the VERY least extremely feasible to create. How well does this fit into the theme of what we're doing?</span><br /><br />- The degree to which the lighting of the environment is appropriate.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">What is the purpose of light? Both literally and how it affects an environment / mood of a character / environment. How can we use light to correctly convey various viewpoints of the audience? How can we use light to portray a sense of isolation / suspense / power / beauty?</span><br /><br />- The degree to which the environment is used to successfully demonstrate <em><strong>appropriate animation.</strong></em><br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">What is appropriate animation? Simply put, neccessary animation. Why animate anything that the camera is not going to see? Why make a bird do a backflip followed by a running jump if the original intention was for it to just fly away? Random? Yes, but there are contexts for these things. It's all appropriate if it fits with what is required.</span>Razareihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15655931434765471039noreply@blogger.com0
