To recap

Right. To recap!

Project : Environments

Criteria : Most met

Story : Rat through plagued city of London.

Google Earth of the street in Victoria that I'm basing the layout off. As you can see this street is almost preserved in it's original format / layout. A huge bonus for gathering a realistic expectation. Although, I'm not going to make it quite as close at that the whole way through.

Now. At the start of the project we (I) looked at multiple shots of what we thought would be appropriate. This obviously started from fable:

This then led me to start researching into games. Such as fable, Crysis, etc. It allowed me to gain an understanding of how games like that are textured since we wanted our feel to pretty much look like fable.

Crysis:

As you can see from this, games like this which are in really high detail use REALLLLY low poly models, but use layered high res textures. This is what approach I'm going to use and teach to the others.

Since that's all cleared up, we should actually START. We have very little time left.

How do I feel at this point? Still don't have my laptop, people are having problems with their laptops too. I just had to take apart Sarah's laptop, but that is now fixed so it's okayish. Lily's is okay now too. I re-did Dom's laptop too. In terms of workload, people are going to come to my house APPARENTLY for the entire christmas holidays to catch up on work. Because of this I'm not TOOO fussed about forcing them to do work right now, but yeah, would be nice.

Backing track!

Now. At the start of the project I thought it would be quite nice to compose a track to help with the overall feel of the environment. Immediately, I thought of fable. Well to be honest, I think everyone did at somepoint. It is pretty much what we're basing this entire thing off. Not the game exactly, but the feel and the era.

Anyways, once the storyboard was complete, after work I invited Gerome over. We then began to compose the track based on soundtracks from fable. When I say based on, I mean the same genre of music.

Generally, I composed the notation and flow, and with geromes input on certain notation and speed, ended up becoming quite a success in my opinion. Anyway, here is the track.. (As soon as it finishes uploading on YuuTuub.)

This track was composed using my Piano and Reason 3.0. It was important to have an orchestra for the instrumentation without a brass section as its a calm waltz melody. I also wanted to illustrate the action of the rat to the music via the storyboard. Hopefully animating it to it won't take too long as we're now REALLY close to the deadline.
